Before you buy
- Price. CNY 60.
- Booking. The river is 30 km north of the city and the site is spread over a hill, so it is 2.5 hours of walking in full sun with little shade. It is also the least essential of Zhengzhou's sights — if you have one day, spend it at the museum and Shaolin instead.
- Payment. Most Chinese sights take WeChat Pay or Alipay only. Cash works at staffed windows but not at self-service machines; a licensed guide can pay on your behalf and settle with you at the end of the day.
Getting there and when to go
30 km north-west of Zhengzhou, 45 minutes by car. Bus 18 goes from the railway station but takes 90 minutes; there is no metro.
07:00–18:30 (Apr–Oct), 08:00–17:30 (Nov–Mar).. The first hour after opening is the quietest — tour groups arrive around 09:30. Late afternoon gives better light but the main viewpoints start clearing people out, so shoot early if that is your priority.
Public transport reaches Yellow River Scenic Area, but connections and waiting times add up. With luggage, older travellers, or two sights in one day, a car and driver removes the guesswork.
